About Dr. Slaton’s Practice and Approach

Since 1976, Dr. Slaton has been a focused clinician in developing and implementing treatment plans that are designed for each client’s unique life concerns.

Working collaboratively with his clients, he will:

  1. Asses their presenting issues in a direct and common sense.
  2. Diagnose any unconscious thoughts and feeling that hinder their mastery of their issues.
  3. Offer powerful skill sets to the client to facilitate in the mastery of their issues.

His clients have many different reasons for engaging in psychotherapy. Some may be going through major life transitions (e.g. divorce, separation, empty nest syndrome) that are hindering their ability to return to a thriving life.

Others need assistance in managing a wide range of other issues such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Other additive behaviors

What Should You Expect:

Counseling/coaching is a process that takes strength and courage on your part. The first visit is the hardest because it is the unknown. It is almost never something you look forward to doing, but once you do the relief is often freeing and refreshing. Gerald is a natural at creating a comfortable environment that is not stale or unfamiliar. He can work as fast or as slow as you are comfortable with. Some people are quick to open-up and others are more reserved. Either way, he and you will make decisions and discoveries together. The average session is one hour. During this time, you will share what concerns you have and together you will discuss skills and actions to implement to lead you into the direction you desire. You will often leave with a goal, action or (thought) to achieve until our next visit.
